The stud accommodates 80 to 90 mares throughout the year. Thanks to a very central location, MONTAIGU enables our clients to leave their mares with us throughout the year or for the breeding season, thus having access to the best French as well as international stallions.
Nearly 70 foals are born each year at the stud. Foaling is supervised by our team and directly handed over to the veterinary hospital of Meheudin in case of complications.
BOARDING
Located in the Orne region, in Normandy, Haras de Montaigu accommodates mares, foals and yearlings from French and foreign clients throughout the year on a 500 acres farm. The facilities and ideal setting, including the preservation of hedges around all paddocks, are perfectly suited to thoroughbred breeding.
A professional team of 15 staff look after the horses with constant and meticulous care.

sales preparation and CONSIGNing
For many years, Haras de Montaigu has specialised in preparing horses for the sales (Arqana, Tattersalls, Osarus…). Ably assisted by a highly experienced team, the stud implements a work program suited to each horse. The facilities and personalised welcome allow potential buyers to visit before the sales in order to inspect the horses listed on the catalogue.
Haras de Montaigu has been based for 40 years in the legendary “Cour B” of Arqana’s Etablissement Elie de Brignac. Thanks to this privileged situation, we are able to welcome our clients in the best conditions.
BLOODSTOCK consulting and expertise
Haras de Montaigu now offers a consulting and expertise service. Erwan de Chambord (commercial manager) is at our clients’ disposal to help them with mating plans, commercial management of their horses as well as short-, medium- and long-term investment programmes.
INVESTIng
Haras de Montaigu’s current vision is to invest each year in order to constantly breed more quality for better and better racing results as well as commercial goals (selling products at the best selection auctions).
For the past few years, the stud has therefore chosen to partner with other breeders and investors sharing the same views to buy quality broodmares, yearlings to race and even good foals for pinhooking. The stud invests for these schemes at the various international sales.
